Co-editor of the month
Thanks to my co-editor of the month Dr. Susie Roques, Principal Research Scientist, Crop Physiology, ADAS, UK
New funding from UK government for farmer-led OFE
ADOPT (Accelerating Development of Practices and Technologies), part of Defra’s Farming Innovation Programme and delivered by Innovate UK, supports farmer-led, on-farm trials to test and demonstrate solutions to agricultural, horticultural, and forestry challenges. For 2025/26, £20.6 million is available through £2,500 support grants for proposal development and £50K–£100K full grants for collaborative projects. Round 1 is open from 28 April to 25 June 2025. Learn more here.
IPMWORKS – In-field comparisons of IPM approaches
As part of the Horizon 2020 project IPMWORKS, growers across Europe were supported in carrying out two or more strategies within the same/comparable field, comparing a conventional strategy with an IPM based strategy as part of demonstration activities. The completed comparison case studies are available here, including trials of intercropping, companion cropping, decision support systems, mechanical weeding, and biocontrols.
Bridging Fields: training researchers for effective OFE
The Royal Agricultural University (RAU) is launching a training programme called ‘Bridging Fields,’ designed to equip researchers, at all levels of experience, with the specific theoretical and practical knowledge needed to co-design and run effective on-farm trials as well as enhancing researchers’ skills at collaborating and communicating effectively with farmers. The programme launches with a webinar on 8 May, or you can register interest in future events here.
British On Farm Innovation Network events
The British On Farm Innovation Network (BOFIN), is a growing network of farmers, scientists, researchers and citizen scientists engaged in practical OFE in the UK. Current projects focus on precision breeding, pulses, slugs, and rooting. Upcoming events include ‘Inspiration Days’ on 15 May in Cambridgeshire, England; register here to attend.
ECPA registration open until 22 June
The 15th European Conference on Precision Agriculture is taking place in Barcelona from 29 June to 3 July. Standard registration is open until 31st May and last minute registration until 22 June, here.
Last Call: Deadline extended: Special Issue on On-Farm Experimentation in the Agronomy Journal
Don't forget to consider that the Special Issue “Advances in On-Farm Agronomic Research and Participatory Learning” of the Agronomy Journal is currently open until June 1st 2025. It is led by ASA President Dr. Peter Kyveryga. This is a great opportunity to bring to light the work that you are doing with farmers and build the scientific literature on on-farm experimentation.
