Overview of the 10th ACPA

The 10th Asian-Australasian Conference on Precision Agriculture (ACPA10) was organized by the Faculty of Agriculture, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) on October 24-26, 2023 at Everly Putrajaya. ACPA10 was officiated by the Honourable Vice Chancellor of UPM, Dato’ Professor Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd. Sadullah.

The technical sessions of ACPA10 comprised invited and voluntary oral presentations, voluntary poster presentations, exhibition by sponsors and field visit to Sime Darby Plantation Academy, Carey Island.  ACPA10 had 158 participants from 11 countries.  The three day event included 53 technical papers.

Major takeaways from ACPA10:
  • The merging of cutting-edge technologies like robotics, AI, and remote sensing with traditional agricultural methods. This integration aims to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and sustainability of agricultural processes, including machinery operations, crop monitoring, and disease management.
  • A major focus was on the use of big data, predictive analytics, and machine learning to support decision-making and optimize agricultural outputs. These tools help in making informed decisions, leading to improved productivity and efficiency.
  • Strong emphasis on sustainable agricultural practices and environmental monitoring toensure long-term ecosystem health. Additionally, addressing the practical challenges of implementing these advanced technologies in real-world settings, such as user-friendliness and adaptation to environmental complexities, was recognized as crucial for success.
  • Issues such as data security and propriety/ownership require further deliberations.
