Abstracts Deadline for 14th ICPA Extended Until December 22
Thanks to everyone who submitted abstracts to the 14th ICPA by the November 30 deadline. We had a terrific surge of submissions the final week for a total of over 300 abstracts submitted. We also had a number of requests to submit an abstract after the deadline. We have allowed for these later submissions and we want to be fair to everyone, so we are extending the deadline to 22 December 2017.
Due to the need to review all abstracts in a timely manner we will need to maintain this as the final deadline for submissions.

SmartAg International Symposium Focuses Technology on Food and Agriculture
The SmartAg International Symposium, held at Michigan State University (MSU) on December 3-6, aimed at connecting the researchers, practitioners and policy makers who will tackle the global agro-food problem of producing more with less.
“We’re uniting emerging smart technologies to work on the world’s potential food shortage,” said John Verboncoeur, chair of the SmartAg Initiative executive committee. “We need to double food production in the decades to come. Strategies include improving access, enhancing production efficiency, and reducing losses and waste in the food supply chain from production to consumption.” Verboncoeur is the associate dean for research in the MSU College of Engineering and a professor of electrical and computer engineering, and computational mathematics, science, and engineering.
The SmartAg International Symposium was co-sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), Purdue University, and MSU at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center in East Lansing, Michigan. Program topics ranged from the Internet of Agriculture to crop modeling, biosensing technology, robotics and automation, and smart food packaging. ISPA Past-President Ken Sudduth presented on “Precision Agriculture: Challenges and Opportunities.”
Input from symposium participants will be used to develop a blueprint for a sustainable community in SmartAg. Another workshop is planned for the summer of 2017 in conjunction with the ASABE Annual International Meeting in Detroit.

Global Soil Organic Carbon Map
The Global Soil Organic Carbon Map (GSOCmap) is not just a map. It is also a comprehensive process that supports the development and empowerment of national capacities to build their national soil information systems. 5th InterMET Asia International Exhibition & Conference for Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Services, Singapore 10-13 April 2018
InterMET Asia 2018 is a unique marketplace bringing together the global weather and climate industry with those in the public and private sectors seeking to mitigate and manage the risks of extreme weather and climate change, and to understand the opportunities.
Focused on Asia, Africa and the Pacific Island regions, it has taken place annually in Singapore since 2014. In 2017, companies and decision makers attended from some 44 countries. The show will again feature Special Sessions on Public-Private Sector co-operation sponsored by the World Bank and the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction & Recovery. For 2018, InterMET will be acompanied by a new launch, InterFLOOD Asia, which will focus on the management and mitigation of weather and related flood hazards.
