Research needs: Very few surveys on farmer-centric OFE
It appears clear that most if not all farmers experiment on their farm to figure out what works for them, to solve problems, and to progress towards their vision. However, very few surveys have explored this question for a better understanding of their motivations, their experimental approach, the challenges that they face while experimenting, or the value that they get from these experiments. See below two surveys that we know of. If you know of other, please share so that we can post it here.
- Completed: Farmers’ Own Research: Organic Farmers’ Experiments in Austria and Implications for Agricultural Innovation Systems
- Ongoing: Cornell University is conducting a survey on farmer-centric on-farm experimentation among NY farmers.
