International Symposium on Robotics and Automation: A Concurrent Event with the 16th ICPA
Robotics and Automation are changing the way we produce crops, increasing efficiency and contributing to strengthening environmental sustainability. Thanks to funding from the USDA National Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA), ISPA is organizing the International Symposium on Robotics and Automation which will run concurrently with the 16th ICPA on Monday, July 22. The symposium will include national and international speakers from academia, industry, and stakeholder groups involved in the research and development of robotic and automation solutions for agriculture and include discussions on the social impact of those solutions. The topics covered and the expertise of the symposium’s speakers will be grouped into three oral sessions and one panel discussion.
Session 1 will be focused on how developments and solutions combining Machine Vision Systems, Data Fusion, and Artificial Intelligence are currently applied to Robotics and automation targeting Row Crop Production.

A panel discussion will address how the academia, industry, and government collaboration can help evaluate all the possibilities automation will bring to crop production. The panelists will be Scott Shearer from The Ohio State University, Mariah Scott from Rantizo, and Edward Barnes from Cotton Incorporated. Alex Thomasson from Mississippi State University will be the panel moderator.
|
Session 3 will highlight the advances in automation, sensing, design, and deployment of robots that are changing fruit and vegetable production. The speakers will bring different perspectives as they work on testing and developing solutions for different stakeholders groups, not only in the USA, but also Europe.

The economics and social aspects of robotics and automation in crop production will be discussed by three speakers coming from Europe. They will cover aspects of adoption and the economics of these applications, the human-system/robot gaps in emerging technologies, and the importance of including stakeholders in the development and evaluation of robotics.
|
The symposium will conclude with a poster session and evening receiption.
We hope to see you at the International Symposium on Robotics and Automation!

Four Precision Nutrient Management Oral Sessions Scheduled in the 16th ICPA Program
Advances in research and technology applied to nutrient management will be presented during the upcoming 16th ICPA. Four oral sessions, as well as a poster session, will focus on developments of the use of technology and artificial intelligence applied to the precise spatial and temporal management of nutrients used on crops such as corn, cotton, potato, rice, sugarcane, wheat, and almond trees. On July 22, the ICPA program will include three oral sessions. The last group of oral presentations are scheduled for July 24.
Below are a few of the research studies that will be presented:
Precision soil sampling, studies highlighting the impact of soil sampling techniques used for nutrient management and the use of soil and plant sensors to support soil sampling will also be included in the program.
