Design Of ECU Monitoring System For Agricultural Vehicle Based On ISO 11783

International standard for implementation of electronic control unit (ECU) in agricultural tractors has been requirement for inter-operation compatibility of various agricultural vehicles. The ISO 11783 standard is basically based on  communication technology designated using the controller area network (CAN), it is typical standard technology for implementation of ECU in agricultural vehicle. CAN bus Communication system was developed to the distribution control of ECUs to configure an agricultural tractor and implements. It can improve the performance, the productivity and the functions of agricultural vehicle through independent ECUs. ISO11783 standard consists of a total of 14 sub-standard, it handles various technical aspects of the standard the terms(Part 1), the Physical Layer(Part 2), the data link layer(Part 3), the Diagnostic Network(Part 4), Virtual Terminal(Part 6), file servers(Part 13) and sequential control(Part 14). We have developed the monitoring system with JAVA on windows. Message exchange between the Monitoring system and the MAIN ECU implemented with RS232 for displaying status of ECUs. Measured data packet between the MAIN ECU and implement ECU with sensor, actuator and so on use protocol of CAN2.0B for utilizing ISO 11783 standards. In our case, our proposed monitoring system with MAIN ECU takes into consideration the virtual terminal system (VT system).
This study presents the implementation method and evaluation about the monitoring system of ECUs for agricultural vehicles. The prototype of ECUs for the measurement of sensors or the control of actuators was laboratory experimental tests, and the requirement by ISO 11873 was satisfied. The sensor signal is measured by interrupt method and it is transmitted by the convert. The communication between tractors and implement is defined PART 5 in ISO11783 but it should be noted on multiple message packets that define PART7 in ISO 11783. Results of this study represent the utilization of the international standard PART 6 in ISO 11783 to provide practical developments in terms with the inter-operability of monitoring system.
