Patents comprise a unique source for technological knowledge. They are considered to be a good proxy for invention skills, R&D activities and for the scope of technological innovation of countries, regions, sectors and firms. Rice is one of the main field crops. The research focuses on patent mechanization technologies of soil working, planting and harvesting of rice production. Based on DWPI patent database and TI patent analysis software. The temporal examination by publication year shows that the related patent publication grew rapidly in the past two decades and the top applicants has only been active since 2009. The spatial distribution and the priority country earliest-DWPI analysis reveals the innovative countries, the competitive countries, the prospective countries. The backward and forward citations analysis tells the innovative technologies and core ones. The IPC_temporal analysis examines top 3 competitors’ change of R&D trends. The results reveals that: Most competitive technologies belong to Japan which owns most patents controlling the worldwide market, then is US and EP; 88.99% worldwide innovation applications have US priority which indicates that the biggest world market is in US; US owns 109 innovation applications, most of which are world top competitive technologies, then is French and Germany; Although China is ranked second by application count, most of China’s applications have no patent family that means with much less competitiveness in international markets and with lower world market share; The top 1 competitive company is KUBOTA KK who experienced evolutions and changed his focus from planting and soil working technologies to harvesting technologies; the second is ISEKI AGRICULT MACH who has experienced some revolutions in planting, soil working and harvesting technologies and still keeps focusing on each area. The third is YANMAR who keeps focusing on rice planting technologies and experienced the revolutions, and now is in the second round of new technologies emerging period. Also, YANMAR is experiencing the growth time of soil working technologies and the saturation period of harvesting technology. Generally, Japan is the top 1 competitive countries and owns most competitive and core technologies and controls the patenting market worldwide. That most of world top technologies belong to US and the biggest market is in US maybe is because of US having good agronomy in accordance with agricultural mechanization of crop production. The analysis was executed and the conclusions and recommendations will serve the decision makers at various levels.
