 Abstract

The yield monitor is intended to give the user an accurate assessment of yield variations y within a field. A yield monitor can assist grain producers in many aspects of crop management. A yield monitor by itself can provide useful information and enhance on-farm research. Yield data can be accumulated for a specific load or field, thereby facilitating the comparison of hybrids, varieties, or treatments within test plots.  All yield monitors can measure grain mass and harvested area on a load-by-load or field-by field basis. This feature allows an operator to get instantaneous readout in the field of accumulated grain weight, harvested area, and average yield. Two types of yield monitor can be developed. One is Batch type and other is continuous type. For small field Batch type yield monitors are very useful. With the above view a batch type yield monitor was developed having load cell of capacity 700 kg with drum size 125x85x85 cm. It was designed by keeping in view the yield of rice and wheat for one Kanal i.e. 500 sq.m. Batch type yield monitor can be used as single unit or it can be used by putting directly in trailer. Because of its low cost, the system is very useful for small & marginal fields and can be used for any crop or any combine. It can also be used by custom hiring operators of combines for charging the harvesting rates from the farmers.
